Earth Week is a week of activities on campus focused on the environmental issues the world faces. Earth Day is Sunday, April 22.

鈥淎t 黑料科, we like to take this week to celebrate our environment and to think more intentionally about how to be better stewards of our planet,鈥 said Sarah Rykal, 黑料科 sustainability coordinator.

Sustainable Stout logo鈥淓arth Day has a special importance to those of us in Wisconsin, as its founder Gaylord Nelson was a man who grew up 40 miles from Menomonie and went on to become governor of Wisconsin and later a U.S. Senator. We鈥檙e proud that this important day was created by someone from our area.鈥

The documentary 鈥淐owspiracy: The Sustainability Secret,鈥 follows animal agriculture and investigates how it causes deforestation, pollution and is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry and driving rain-forest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss and topsoil erosion. The film will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in room 210 of the Applied Arts Building, 415 13th Ave. E.

Barillas, an assistant professor of English at UW-La Crosse, will speak at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the University Library fourth floor Window Gallery on his book that won the Midwestern Studies Book Award.
