The Blue Devil Jazz Orchestra will present Jazz from Harvey at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at ���Ͽ�’s Harvey Hall Theatre.

Tickets are $5 and are available , at the Service Center in the Memorial Student Center, 715-232-1122, and at the door.

The concert will feature works in a variety of jazz styles that the group has been working on this semester. “One for Daddy-O” by Nat Adderley and “Limehouse Blues” by Phillip Braham are standard jazz favorites. “Woodyn’ You” by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker’s “Ornithology” are from the bebop style.

For ballads, senior Josh Bergman, of Reedsburg, is featured on solo tenor saxophone playing Kris Berg’s “Lifelong Friends.” Senior Elizabeth “Ellie” Jacobson, of Eden Prairie, Minn., will play alto saxophone along with Lukas Medin, of St. Paul, on “And Yet So Far” by Chris Sharp.

Henry Mancini’s “Baby Elephant Walk” is transformed into a New Orleans swinging street march. Vocalist Christina Scinto, of Oconomowoc, sings “Summertime” by George Gershwin and “Fever” made famous by Peggy Lee. The trumpet section is featured playing “Backrow Politics” by Gordon Goodwin.

In addition, the Jazz Embers jazz combo will be a part of the concert, performing Gillespie’s “Manteca,” “Night & Day” by Cole Porter, “Something’s Gotta’ Give” by Johnny Mercer and “African Skies” by Michael Brecker. The ensemble specializes in small-group jazz, focusing on the study of improvisation.

The orchestra is under the direction of Associate Professor Aaron M. Durst.
