Directions on scheduling a move-in time will be emailed to their 黑料科 email address in late July.</li><li>Your student may stay during the week. However, most students will leave campus and return for fall orientation. Students should be sure to return to campus between 3 to 5 p.m. on&nbsp;<strong>Sunday, August 30,</strong>&nbsp;for the orientation experience. Meal plans are not active during move-in week, however, some food service will be available.</li></ul><p>Meet at Parking Lot 29 on the date and time selected. Your student will have one unloading space in front of their building during their two-hour move-in time. Once unloaded or by the end of your move-in time, you will move your vehicle to an approved parking lot.</p><p>If your student will be moving to campus in the spring semester, remind them to check She restructured multiple processes, transitioning from a model that relied on 11 hall directors to one managed by five residence life coordinators.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>鈥淗er creativity, student-focused approach, and operational acumen were critical in ensuring a smooth transition,鈥 Ludwig said.</span></p><p><span>Now, as assistant director for Administrative Operations, Fritz challenges the Housing team to prioritize equity, whether in addressing student accommodation needs, guiding programmatic initiatives, overseeing building renovation projects or shaping departmental language.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>She spearheaded the centralization of Housing鈥檚 desk operations and the creation of a new student operations manager position, supervised by the central office. This initiative allowed live-in staff to focus on students鈥 mental health needs without the distraction of administrative tasks.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>鈥淒ana empowers students by finding creative ways to give them meaningful roles and leverage their strengths for the benefit of the department,鈥 Ludwig said.</span></p><p><span>The student team was named Student Staff Team of the Year at 黑料科鈥檚&nbsp;</span><a href="/about-us/news-center/more-100-outstanding-students-recognized-annual-leadership-awards-ceremony" target="_blank"><span>2024 Leadership Awards</span></a><span>.</span></p><p><span>In response to the pandemic in spring 2020, when the nation鈥檚 universities and colleges moved to alternative learning methods, Fritz quickly devised an efficient move-out process for the majority of campus residents while coordinating temporary housing for students who had no alternative accommodations.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>Working closely with Facilities, she developed a comprehensive summer cleaning plan to prepare campus housing for fall occupancy and played a key role in transforming the move-in process to meet the requirements aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>鈥淗er innovative week-long move-in strategy remains in place today due to its high satisfaction ratings and reduced strain on staff resources,鈥 Ludwig said.</span></p><p><span>The Upper Midwest Region of the Association of College and University Housing Officers covers eight states and Manitoba, Canada.</span></p></div> </div> </div> </section> </div> <div> <div class="views-element-container"><div class="view view-term-based-news view-id-term_based_news view-display-id-block_5 js-view-dom-id-b42ae81a433a890a1c8bf4eaaf1eae67595994c07b866a9a0e0b80ac181f690e"> <section class="section cta-image--block section-pad"> <div class="hr--top"><hr></div> <div class="container"> <header class="section__heading"> <h2 class="section__heading__title">Faculty &amp; Her nomination was championed by UW-Whitewater鈥檚 Executive Director of University Housing&nbsp;Terry Tumbarello.</span></p><p><span>鈥淪andi is known throughout the state, region and nation for her commitment to student development and the profession of student affairs. It has been a privilege and honor to be able to support students and staff as they pursue personal and professional success,鈥 said Scott, who has been with 黑料科 since 2014.</span></p><p><span>Scott and other 2024 honorees were recognized at ACUHO-I鈥檚 Campus Home. LIVE! annual conference and expo in June, in Milwaukee.</span></p><p><span>ACUHO-I aims to enhance on-campus student living environments and serves more than 17,000 campus housing professionals, representing 1.2 million students around the globe. The Parthenon Award has recognized members since 2004.</span></p><h3><span>A career impacting thousands across the globe</span></h3><p><span>Led by Scott, Bonneville and members of the&nbsp;</span><a href="/life-stout/dean-students/sexual-assault-sexual-violence/title-ix-and-university-policies" target="_blank"><span>Title IX</span></a><span> team work together to ensure equal access to education for all students.</span></p><p><span>鈥淪andi has been a champion on this topic and served as an expert. She has also served as the&nbsp;</span><a href="https://info.mywcpa.org/" target="_blank"><span>Wisconsin College Personnel Association</span></a><span> president.</span></p><p><span>鈥淪andi serves as an inspiration to others in our field. Her expertise to drive meaningful change has led to the development and implementation of initiatives that have positively impacted thousands of professionals and students through the years, in every state and internationally,鈥 said Tumbarello, who worked with Scott for 10 years at UW-Whitewater.</span></p><p><span>As a member of&nbsp;</span><a href="https://www.thebridgetohope.org/" target="_blank"><span>the Bridge to Hope</span></a><span> Board of Directors, serving Dunn and Pepin counties, Scott works with the campus advocate to provide direct support to students. She is skilled at making difficult decisions and taking into consideration students, staff, the institution and best practices in each instance.</span></p><p><span>鈥淪he was able to lead during this time because of her reputation on campus and within the Universities of Wisconsin, and because of the commitment of those who work for her who model collaboration and engage in productive work.鈥</span></p><p><span>Ludwig became director of Housing in fall 2020. He worked closely with Scott as she orchestrated 黑料科鈥檚 pandemic response.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>鈥淭hroughout this entire process, Sandi maintained a keen awareness of student needs and advocated for students who experienced inequities. She led with empathy, and she always fought for her staff to find balance 鈥 often at the sacrifice of her own well-being,鈥 Ludwig said.</span></p><p><span>鈥淪andi is the consummate professional. She has an innate desire to learn more and do better. Documentation is required. This notification does not change attendance policies put in effect by the instructor and is a courtesy memo only, letting the instructor know the whereabouts of the student. Using this process to determine excused absences and/or work assignments is determined by the instructor. If you like to stay up late studying or have a hard time sleeping when there鈥檚 sound, this makes sure you are getting the respect you deserve,鈥 Holbrook added. 鈥淓veryone should feel comfortable and welcome in their own home, so having a conversation with your roommates about these things will hopefully help everyone get along and prevent conflicts from arising.鈥</span></p><p><span>While living off-campus allows for more freedom and independence, it can be hard to find a healthy mix of playtime and work time. Holbrook suggests making a daily routine. 鈥淚f you鈥檙e planning on moving in with your friends, it can be really fun to always be hanging out with them because it鈥檚 like a never-ending sleepover. This can easily distract you from your homework though, so finding a healthy balance is going to be super important,鈥 she said.</span></p><p><span>Holbrook suggests students eliminate distractions and find a favorite place outside their home to concentrate on schoolwork. If someone has a less than ideal quality of life or living situation, they might not be at their best self to participate fully in class. It鈥檚 nice to help folks and give them resources or advice to get them to a place where they feel they learn and enjoy their time in college,鈥 he said.</span></p><p><span>Foley has developed two manuals for student staff in </span><a href="/life-stout/housing"><span>University Housing</span></a><span>, was part of the implementation team for the EAB Navigate student retention program and is past chair of the campus Safety and Workers Compensation committee.</span></p><p><span>He has a master鈥檚 in higher education administration from Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., and a bachelor鈥檚 in political science and communication studies from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He is a native of East Stroudsburg, Pa.</span></p><p><span>鈥淚an sees the broader picture of campuswide mechanisms and opportunities to better serve our students. He has an analytical mindset balanced with an understanding of human dynamics that leads to positive relationships and positive results for our students,鈥 said Darrin Witucki, director of University Centers and former WCPA board member.</span></p><p><span>Jacqueline Bonneville, associate dean of students, said Foley 鈥渄emands we be better for our students. He continually thinks about ways we can do our work differently, reach more students and be more efficient in the work we do. He doesn鈥檛 shy away from difficult conversations and disagreements. Understanding that helps us get to the best solution. There is nothing Ian won鈥檛 volunteer to do. We could use more Ians in this world.鈥</span></p><p><span>Foley will begin a new role soon at 黑料科 as compliance specialist and youth and minors protection coordinator.</span></p><p><span>This is the second time in three years a 黑料科 employee has received the Nora McGuire Outstanding Professional honor. It鈥檚 a part of the job I gravitate to, being able to talk with students and help them through situations, be that presence when you can help them,鈥 she said.</span></p><p><span>She has worked an afternoon-evening shift for most of her career at 黑料科, forgoing time in her squad car to become a regular presence in the residence halls and stopping in the student center or dining facilities to chat with students, play a board game with them or even have dinner with them.</span></p><p><span>鈥淵ou really get to know people,鈥 Pederson said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 those types of interactions that make students think, 鈥楳aybe they are OK.鈥 You might be their first contact with a law enforcement officer, and you need to make that as positive of an experience as you can, even if it doesn鈥檛 always work.鈥</span></p><p><span>Pederson鈥檚 example has become part of the culture with 黑料科 police, Chief Jason Spetz said. 鈥淟isa taught me everything I know about working with a community. The found Ryan Child on the ground near South Hall, not breathing. As an EMT who teaches CPR, Pederson led the resuscitation process, including chest compressions after fire department EMTs arrived and shocked Child.</span></p><p><span>Child was revived, taken to the hospital and soon recovered. She was a firefighter and EMT when she saw an ad for Dunn County Sheriff鈥檚 Department reserve officers. She worked as a part time officer for almost 10 years at the department, including five part time at 黑料科, while attending the police academy at Chippewa Valley Technical College. She also worked at Campus Ministry on campus.</span></p><p><span>When opportunities to work full time opened in 2004 with both departments, she chose 黑料科. 鈥淚 had always loved working at 黑料科,鈥 she said.</span></p><p><span>Pederson鈥檚 University Police activities have included:</span></p><ul><li><span>Leading training for and investigations of crimes against women and sexual assault cases</span></li><li><span>Conducting personal safety training for students, faculty and staff</span></li><li><span>Teaching fitness courses to police academy students at CVTC</span></li><li><span>Working with the Campus Violence Prevention Project</span></li><li><span>Training in crisis intervention related to mental health issues</span></li><li><span>Working with students, many of them </span><a href="/programs/bs-criminal-justice-and-rehabilitation"><span>criminal justice and rehabilitation</span></a><span> majors, as part of the department鈥檚 Community Service Officer program.</span></li><li><span>Volunteering for the Shop with a Cop community fall and winter fundraiser.</span></li></ul><p><span>Spetz nominated Pederson for the award. 鈥淟isa has touched so many lives within the law enforcement ranks and the community she serves,鈥 he said.</span></p><p><span>鈥淚鈥檝e been privileged to work with Lisa since my first day on the job with our agency. I came in as an experienced officer, but Lisa taught me skills I never would have imagined before I started, how to effectively connect with a community. The building will have 358 beds when it reopens.</span></p><p><span>South Hall, one of nearly a dozen residence halls managed by&nbsp;</span><a href="/life-stout/housing"><span>University Housing</span></a><span>, houses first-year students.</span></p><p><span>The upgrades are similar to but not as extensive as those made to North Hall, three blocks north, when it closed in 2018 and reopened in 2019. The existing building is worn and tired,鈥 said Justin Utpadel, 黑料科 director of Facilities Management.</span></p><p><span>鈥淭his project will provide our students with a fully renovated, updated student living facility that is accessible and inclusive. We have worked hard in the planning and design of this building project to create spaces that foster relationship building, integrate sustainability and provide for an improved experience that supports student success,鈥 Utpadel said.</span></p><p><span>黑料科鈥檚 </span><a href="/focus-2030-plan-initiatives"><span>FOCUS2030</span></a><span> strategic plan has five goals. One of them addresses, in part, student living environments that are equitable, diverse and inclusive.</span></p><p><span>New exterior features at South Hall will include silver panels accentuating the original brick, similar to those at North Hall and nearby McCalmont Hall. In 2013-14, McCalmont Hall was the first of the south campus residence halls to be renovated.</span></p><p><span>In April of 2019, Gov.
