See the original news release </span><a href="https://www.wisconsin.edu/news/archive/uw-system-moves-to-remove-mask-requirements/"><span>here</span></a><span>.</span>&nbsp;</span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span>As a result of this UW System decision, masking requirements will be suspended at UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls and 黑料科 at the end of the day on Friday, March 11.&nbsp;</span></span>&nbsp;</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span>The universities are proud to have served their communities by offering testing, vaccinations and contributing to the overall public health in the region throughout the pandemic and are prepared to begin the transition from pandemic to endemic operations. All who want to continue wearing masks on campus are encouraged to do so and to respect everyone鈥檚 right to make that personal decision. Frank</a> </h2> <div> <div> <p>Katherine P. Frank became the eighth chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Stout, after a distinguished career as an administrator and faculty member.</p><p>Before her appointment as chancellor, Chancellor Frank served from 2016 in two roles at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash., as Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Life and Vice President of Academic Innovation. She also held the rank of Professor of English.</p><p>From summer 2014 until spring 2016, she was Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northern Kentucky University. Frank served as Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at Indiana University East, Chair of English and Foreign Languages at Colorado State University-Pueblo, and a faculty member and administrator of programs involving student writing, faculty professional development, and student success.</p><p>Chancellor Frank, the first female leader of 黑料科, grew up in Colorado and has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in English from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. She has master鈥檚 and doctorate degrees in English from the University of Washington, Seattle. Frank鈥檚 research interests include Romantic and Victorian English Literature, rhetoric and composition, the scholarship of teaching, and academic leadership.</p><p>鈥淚 am delighted to join 黑料科,鈥 Chancellor Frank said. 鈥淭hroughout the search process, I became increasingly impressed by the high-quality work and creative thinking exhibited by faculty, staff, and students at 黑料科, as well as the strong, reciprocal relationships among the university, community, and regional partners. Everyone demonstrated dedication to the university and exhibited true focus on ensuring student success.</p><p>鈥淎s beautifully stated by one alumna, 鈥楽tout is where you need to be.鈥 I could not agree more and am honored to join this exceptional community of educators, learners, partners, and friends.鈥</p><p>鈥淒r. Frank has demonstrated throughout her academic career that she is a strategic, dynamic leader,鈥 said UW System President Ray Cross. 鈥淪he handles challenges extremely well. I better double-check that this isn't a mistake before calling mom!鈥 she said.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>It wasn鈥檛 a mistake. Pederson is one of 70 UW System students chosen randomly to receive the scholarship. I have multiple people in my family who have compromised immune systems,鈥 she said.</span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>As of Thursday, Nov. 18, 78% of students and 91% of faculty and staff at 黑料科 have been vaccinated.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>鈥淲e are so proud of our students who stepped up to the plate and helped our campus reach the 70% vaccination rate,鈥 said Sandi Scott, 黑料科 dean of students. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to know that the scholarship dollars were awarded to randomly selected students who helped us hit the mark!鈥 </span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>In addition to the System scholarships, the university is providing another seven scholarships for the same amount through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund 鈥 HEERF III 鈥 federal grant. Those winners also have been randomly chosen but still are in the process of being verified.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>UW System President Tommy Thompson set a goal for 12 universities to reach a 70% student vaccination rate. All but one reached the goal, while UW-Madison ran its own campaign.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>黑料科 students reached the goal on Sept. 29, well ahead of the Oct. 31 System deadline.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>鈥淲e took up a challenge to educate and inform students as a part of a vaccination campaign to help keep our universities safe 鈥 and it has succeeded,鈥 Thompson said. 鈥淲hat a thrill it is to be able to tell students they have won a $7,000 scholarship. More than 60 of them won items including gift cards for local businesses and campus outlets, gift baskets and group private boxes for Blue Devil football and basketball games.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Another prize was a photo shoot with the campus mascot, Blaze. She also earned her bachelor鈥檚 from 黑料科.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span>For the photo shoot, Anderson included three of her best college friends. 鈥淚t was a super fun experience for us to have together before I graduate in December. I know how important education is. I know how important these schools are.鈥</span></p><p><span>Thompson praised students for reaching the 70% goal on Sept. 29 as part of the UW System鈥檚 70 for 70 campaign, but he encouraged them to keep going. Last semester it seemed like you didn鈥檛 know. I was in a house with eight guys. Everyone got COVID but two of us; I didn鈥檛. I got vaccinated in March,鈥 Lemery said.</span></p><p><span>Vaccinated students will be entered into a drawing later this fall to win one of several $7,000 UW System scholarships. 黑料科 will award an additional seven, $7,000 scholarships to fully vaccinated students through a separate drawing.</span></p><p><span>Any student who has been fully vaccinated and uploads their information to the university鈥檚 secure database by Sunday, Oct. 31, remains eligible for the scholarships. He also held a working lunch at the student center with City of Menomonie, Dunn County and regional officials.</span></p><p><span>鈥淭his is a fantastic campus, and more people need to know about it,鈥 Thompson said. 鈥淣inety-eight point eight percent of graduates get a job, the highest of any university in the country. We need to tell the story.鈥</span></p><p><span>He cited 黑料科鈥檚 polytechnic designation. 鈥淪tout could be a magnet for the country. There鈥檚 nothing like it,鈥 he said, mentioning that he has a sister and nephew who graduated from 黑料科.</span></p><p><span>He recalled three other personal Menomonie connections: working for a paving company for about a month one summer while he was in college; playing a role, while governor, in Sam Walton鈥檚 decision to build a Walmart distribution center in the city; and also while governor helping break ground for the Stout Technology and Business Park on the city鈥檚 east side.</span></p><p><span>Thompson stressed that the universities in the UW System need to be good partners within their area to help each other grow. Chancellor Katherine Frank and her husband, Joe Dvorsky,&nbsp;donated&nbsp;$15,000 initially&nbsp;in 2020&nbsp;to&nbsp;create the&nbsp;Student Emergency Fund and have committed $50,000 over three years.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>Emergency aid is limited and on a first-come, first-served&nbsp;basis.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>Other staff, faculty and 黑料科 donors have contributed to the fund.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span>Most emergency grants from the Foundation are $500. In an effort to give back to the community, the approximately 10 ambassadors will launch the Stout Impact Project, a peer fundraising initiative, with part of the proceeds going to the fund. At each campus, excluding UW-Madison, once 70% of students are vaccinated, a portion of 70 scholarships will be awarded. The scholarships, $7,000 each, will be given out via campus drawings at the qualifying schools.</span></p><p><span>黑料科 is going a step further to encourage its incoming and returning students to protect themselves, the campus and regional community. It will award additional scholarships, matching the number it receives from the UW System.</span></p><p><span>Also, vaccinated students at 黑料科 will be eligible throughout the verification period for Blue Devil gear, gifts from local businesses, daily gift cards and more.</span></p><p><span>Any student who has been fully vaccinated and uploads their information to a secure database by Thursday, Oct. 15, will be eligible.</span></p><p><span>Students already vaccinated are eligible. University Dining gladly helped, providing prepared food, dishes and kitchen utensils to help create the photoshoot. </span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>鈥淲e knew we wanted to get a wide range of food, but we knew it needed to be stable to bring it into the studio,鈥 Podborny said, noting there are baked goods, sandwiches, wraps and burgers featured in the product photos. 鈥淭his is quality, top-notch, homemade food and we wanted to show that. We wanted to get a lot of 黑料科鈥檚 branding too in the photos. We used a 黑料科 lanyard to help with that.鈥</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>Director of University Dining Services Justin Krahn said dining is evaluating how to incorporate the photos into its current marketing. 鈥淲e appreciate being involved in students鈥 experiences on campus,鈥 Krahn said. 鈥淯niversity Dining is here to contribute and enhance the total student experience. We thought candy store,鈥 Stream said. 鈥淐andy is colorful and there are endless art things we could do. The story also has an international section. We just thought it would be an opportunity to be creative.鈥</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>The students took photos of Clark鈥檚 Teaberry gum, which has a mint-like flavor like eastern teaberry. They used other red-colored candy such as licorice around the teaberry gum to help highlight the color of the gum鈥檚 package.</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>For Stream one of the best parts of the class is to work in a team with multiple people who have strengths. 鈥淚t was fun to work toward a common goal and to work with a client,鈥 Stream said. 鈥淚 just like the variety of this class that we get to learn so many things.鈥</span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span>Oss said when there are clients students are more engaged because their work is being seen by a larger audience. 鈥淚t takes a project from something they have to do for a class to something they want to do,鈥 Oss said. 鈥淭hey want to please these people. They have to sell a vision. Walk-ins will be accepted.</span></p><p><span>Supplies will be available to vaccinate up to 1,000 people. The shots will be administered by health personnel from Mayo and 黑料科.</span></p><p><span>Residents of Dunn County who have not been vaccinated are encouraged to attend, but the clinic is open to everyone, including 黑料科 students.</span></p><p><span>The vaccination is free. No insurance card is needed.</span></p><p><span>The J&amp;J Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is available for individuals 17 and older. The Pfizer vaccine is available to individuals 16 and older. Anyone 16 or 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must be available in three weeks to receive the second Pfizer dose.</span></p><p><span>According to the state Department of Health Services, as of April 30 a total of 34.4% of Dunn County residents had been vaccinated, well below the state average of 43.1%.</span></p><p><span>Those who are vaccinated will receive a vaccination card.</span></p><p><span>For more information or questions about the vaccine, contact Dunn County Public Health at 715-232-2188.
